Today’s Food for the Soul: Romans Chapters 3-4
Have Faith Like Abraham
“He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. And therefore “it was accounted to him for righteousness.” (Romans 4:20-22, NKJV)
We knew and remembered Abraham as the man who believed God and stood firm in his promises. Despite all the challenges Abraham had, he did not waver. He looked past his physical state and limitation, and he chose to trust God – the One who promised him that he would be the father of many nations. His tenacity was evident; he stood firm, for he was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises. Abraham lived in hope when he had no reason to hope – he walked by faith to the One who called him!
Remember, the Scripture says, “it was not written for his sake alone but also for us.” (Romans 4:22-24) Therefore, these questions are for you and me. “Do we have the faith that our father Abraham had? Do we trust God’s promise of redemption – through His son? Do we believe the Messiah has come? Do we believe that Jesus is The Anointed One of God – the Savior of the world?
Now is the time if you have not made that decision: you can waver on the promise of God through unbelief or, like Abraham – call those things which do not exist as though they did (Romans 4:17b); and be “strengthened in faith and give glory to God.” (Romans 4:20)
It is by the grace of God, and through our faith in Jesus Christ, that brought us into the family of God, by which we became partakers of the promise – calling Abraham our father, whose faith gave us a great example to follow.
So, have faith like Abraham, stand firm in God’s promises and put your hope in the Lord Jesus Christ alone!
