Today’s Food for the Soul: 1 Timothy Chapters 1-3
Jesus Christ Came to Save Sinners
“This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.” (1Timothy 1:15, NKJV)
Are you a nihilist? Do you reject all moral and religious principles because it is meaningless to you? Are you a hedonist? Is the pursuit of pleasure your highest goal? Are you a humanist, believing that human experience and rational thinking are the only moral codes to live by? Are you an atheist, not believing that God exists?
There is a statement that will echo through all eternity because it is the truth: That Jesus came into the world to save sinners. Who is this Jesus? This Jesus is not a dogma, a doctrine, or a ceremony. This Jesus is not an abstract idea, a pie in the sky, a head knowledge, a feeling, or an emotional euphoria. HE IS A PERSON, a loving, living, life-giving person. Do you know Him? Are you close to Him? Is He your personal friend?
A person’s spirit is very sensitive in his dying bed. Because it is not dulled by the pursuits of this world, the lust of the flesh, and lulled into sleep by sin – the dying person begins to get glimpses of eternity.
Think how scary it is to transition from death to life without an anchor for your soul. This is why Jesus came. There is life and death; there is heaven and hell. Yes, indeed, we all go to a place where is no return after death. Hence, we are encouraged by the verse above to accept the proposition that Jesus can be trusted, believed in, lean on, turn to, and anchor in for the salvation of our souls, for the peace of our conscience, for the hope of salvation, for joy unspeakable and full of glory, both now and the life to come. Amen!
