Today’s Food for the Soul: James Chapters 1-5
Let Us Show Our Faith In Action!
“For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” (James 2:26, NKJV)
Once again, this passage reminds us that faith and works are critical components of our spiritual standing before God. Work is the manifestation of faith, and these two are inseparable.
Throughout the Scripture, faith is shown evident through actions. Remember Abraham, a father who brought his son to be his sacrifice offering as commanded by God. Another example is a prostitute named Rahab, who kept the spies and misdirected the authorities to help the men of God escape. We learned that these faithful men and women got recognized not just by believing in God but by their actions, which are not according to human norms and standards.
The motives are essential factors as well. They are not after popularity or recognition. They are not men-pleasers but driven by their desire to please God, to do His will, and accomplish His command.
Therefore, as a challenge by James to us, he desires and encourages us to be faithful believers in action. So let us show our faith not just in words but through our good deeds. Let us be zealous of good works, exemplify and be a model (Titus 2:7, 14). Let us take advantage of every opportunity to show our faith in action to glorify God and honor His name!
