Today’s Food for the Soul: 2Peter Chapters 1-3
Partakers of Divine Nature
“Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” (2 Peter 1:2-4, NKJV)
What is the essence of your life in Christ? The Bible emphasized the importance of being established in the knowledge of God and Christ because without which, our understanding of the true meaning of the new life in Christ would be derailed and misconstrued.
When we accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, we received the right to become children of God (John 1:18). The Holy Spirit dwells in us, and God’s DNA became ingrained and weaved in our being, by which manifestation became the evidence of us becoming God’s child. Our spiritual eyes are now able to see, and our understanding is now able to comprehend the things of God.
As a result, we begin to hunger and thirst for righteousness. We receive the word of God as nourishment, which builds up our faith, establishing the firm foundation of our life as believers of Jesus Christ. The word of God provides our progressive sanctification wherewith we continuously grow and mature, comprehending the vast meaning of a new life in Christ – a new man, renewed, transformed, and changed to reflect the Savior’s glory!!!
The manifestation of divine nature does not come automatically and does not happen overnight. We are justified and sanctified by grace through our faith in the only begotten Son – Jesus Christ, and progressively fulfilled in our lives as we live the will of God every moment of every day. Remember, a believer must be diligent in pursuing a life of holiness and purity. Having faith based on the knowledge of God and the Lord Jesus Christ: In godliness operate in love showing kindness to all, resisting sin, and practicing self-control with perseverance as Apostle Paul put it, “fight a good fight of faith” (1 Timothy 6:12).
So, what is the significance of us partaking into the divine nature of Christ? The answer is clear, the ‘Day of the Lord’ will come as the Bible declares. The heavens and the earth will melt with fervent heat and be no more. The New Earth and the New Heavens come where righteousness dwells; only the people who partake in Christ’s Divine Nature would be allowed to enter and reside.
Therefore, believers are specifically instructed to be steadfast in the faith, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot, and blameless in the grace and mercy of our God (2 Peter 3:14).
