Today’s Food for the Soul: 1 Corinthians Chapters 5-9
Glorify God Daily!
“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20, NKJV)
These chapters in the Apostle Paul’s epistle to the Corinthians highlight many of the guidelines for the believers of the Lord Jesus Christ on how they should set the affairs and issues of everyday life. Now, if we consider ourselves as Christians, then we need to learn and apply these guidelines.
The Apostle Paul emphasized that we must glorify God in our bodies – physically and spiritually. Here is a question to ponder – Is living deliberately in sin glorify and honor God? No! So, we must not turn a blind eye when there is a blatant practice of sin. The sins must be uncovered and be dealt with promptly with gentleness, not just to restore the sinning brethren, but because immorality defiles the Church of Jesus Christ and infects others around us. Once there is tolerance of evil or sin within the Church, a distorted perception weakens its integrity. It significantly affects the Church’s witness because of its double standard, allowing the members’ wrongdoing yet condemns the outsiders for the same offense.
The Apostle Paul reminded us that a significant agreement took place the moment we accepted Jesus as our personal Savior and Lord. It is a commitment. An all-inclusive deal and entails our entire life, which was purchase at a high price – His precious life.
Let us be grateful for God’s love and grace for paying a high price for us, even though we don’t deserve it. Let us be thankful for what the Lord Jesus has done for us. We must remember, our body is no longer our own. We are the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in each one of us. Let us allow the Holy Spirit to lead and empower us to overcome sin. Let us live a godly lifestyle, not hypocritical, so that we may glorify God daily.
