Today’s Food for the Soul: Acts Chapters 12-13
Be Ready For Persecutions
“The Word of the Lord spread through the whole region. But the Jewish leaders incited the God-fearing women of high standing and the leading men of the city. They stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their region! So they shook the dust off their feet as a warning to them and went to Iconium. And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit” (Acts 13:49-52, NIV).
May you find encouragement from Paul and Barnabas in this passage.
Persecution comes in many different forms, and it never plays favorites! In other words, if you are an earnest, steadfast follower of our Lord Jesus Christ, it would be silly ever to assume that you’re “immune” to it! Don’t forget the reminder of our Lord Jesus in John 15:20 (NIV), “Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also.”
Moreover, don’t be surprised at **WHO** persecutes you! Considering the fickleness of man and our tendencies to think negatively of our closest friends and family the moment they begin living outside of **OUR** (not even their) comfort zone, yeah, it actually makes more sense to embrace the fact that even those we consider “on our side” may not actually be “on God’s side.” So ultimately, begin training yourself in His Truths found in the Word, and equipping yourself with the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:11), and tilling the soil of your soul to be able to grow the seeds of the Spirit implanted ever more by your increasing faith (Proverbs 20:4)!
