Today’s Food for the Soul: Ephesians Chapters 4-6
Walk in God’s Will
“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” (Ephesians 5:15-17, ESV)
It is critical that we, transformed beings in Christ who, yet, still are “spotted with stubbornness” (Romans 2:5-6) — yearn steadfastly for God’s presence. Why? Because only His presence can “re-calibrate” us into that initial position of SUBMISSION and SURRENDER to Him. Lest we become like those described in Ephesians 4:17-9, “…they have become callous and have given themselves up to SENSUALITY, greedy to practice EVERY kind of impurity” (ESV, formatting added for emphasis).
Only from the vantage point of complete submission to God and surrender to His will is where the priorities in our lives are appropriately ordered. And when we allow this to happen (reflect on James 4:7-8), EACH and EVERY aspect of life, no matter what it is, seems to effortlessly fall: [1] into its proper place, [2] at its right timing, and [3] in its appropriate way/means. As Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens” (ESV). Remember and be warned, everything (our thoughts, actions, consequences, outcomes, etc.) is based on our personal [and practical] “treatment” of the Lord. What I mean is, how you treat God *DIRECTLY PROJECTS ONTO YOUR “REAL LIFE” (i.e., what precisely is seen by others observing you)* in terms of how you allow God’s Word to guide you, His presence to lead you, and His instruction to direct your life (meditate on Colossians 1:10).
Our lives’ reality is often “spoken into existence” by ourselves, which directly reflects what is in our hearts (Luke 6:45). Therefore, as the scripture declares, “You can be sure of this, when the day of judgment comes, EVERYONE will be held accountable for EVERY CARELESS WORD he has spoken. Your very words will be used as evidence, and your words will declare you either innocent or guilty!” (Matthew 12:36-37, TPT).
Simply stated, it is ALL about continually re-calibrating our spiritual lives around the central/core concept of “The Heart of Worship.” As is plainly put by our brother Paul in his letter to the Romans: “…offer your bodies as a LIVING SACRIFICE, holy and pleasing to God — this is your TRUE and PROPER worship” (Romans 12:1, NIV).
