Today’s Food for the Soul: John Chapters 9-10

Today’s Food for the Soul: John Chapters 9-10

Have You Received Your Sight?

“And Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.” (John 9:39, NKJV)

Every situation is an opportunity taken by the Great Master. When approached by His disciples, the Lord Jesus revealed God’s work that is unperceivable to human understanding but shed light on the truth-seekers [the blind person and some of the people who witnessed the miracle].

Following the story attentively, we learned the two facets of blindness – the physical and the spiritual. The Lord Jesus emphasized that physical blindness is not always a result of sin, but spiritual blindness is always associated with sinfulness.

The man who received the physical sight began declaring firmly that He who restored his eyesight was from God and a worshipper of God – not fearing that the Pharisees will cast him out.  Hence, he reencountered Jesus – he heard the word of truth, received it, and right there declared, “Lord, I believe!” and worshiped Jesus (John 9:38).

Imagine this marvelous scene – a man who was born blind received his eyesight! Many others witnessed God’s work but did not perceive and received it the way God purposed it to be. And mind you, many of those were spiritual leaders – they are well-informed. Still, their spiritual blindness prevented them from seeing the Anointed Savior mentioned in every book of their prophets.

The truth of the matter, we all are born spiritually blind! I urge you – admit it! As Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, ‘we see.’ Therefore your sin remains”.(John 9:41)

Have you received your spiritual eyesight? Jesus came to restore it. You will know once you received it because it will compel you to bow on your knees and worship Him.

Do you see Jesus as your true shepherd? The Good Shepherd who gave His life for you and me. Do you see all the works He did for your sake and mine? “He made Himself of no reputation, He took the form of a bondservant, and came in the likeness of men” (Philippians 2:7). Many saw His glory as of the only begotten Son (John 1:14). God attested Him by miracles, signs, and wonders that have many eye-witnesses.  He was mocked and humiliated. Jesus bore the road of suffering: He carried the cross, flogged and wounded, bled, was crucified, and died on the cross (Acts 2:23-24). All these, He took on to Himself because He loves us so much! And now we can rejoice because the story did not end there; God raised Him to life – death has no hold of Him!

So today, I am praying that God’s grace and mercy be upon you- that you receive your spiritual eyesight (if you haven’t yet) – that you may see JESUS and worship Him – “For if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” (Romans 10:9-10)
