Today’s Food for the Soul: Romans Chapters 11-13
God Knows Our Value
“For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.” (Romans 12:3, NKJV)
Have you noticed that people never run out of ways when it comes to comparing themselves to others? Here are the two most common tendencies we compare ourselves to others: (1) We look down on others while we lift and praise ourselves for our talents, special abilities, intelligence, attractiveness, status, or wealth. (2) We look down on ourselves and envy others because they are more talented, competent, innovative, attractive, influential, more prosperous, and the list goes on.
Did you notice that neither of these two looks pleasing to us? How much more to our God?!
Such comparisons are pointless and dangerous to our interpersonal relationships in general. God did not create us to heap up, compete, and fight against each other. It is time to wake up! Realize that God designed each one of us uniquely with different gifts and talents according to His grace and for His purpose. God created us to complement and supplement each other – to complete and not to compete!
In the Church context, God brought us together to form a fully functional, healthy body of Christ. The worth of a believer’s value is not according to man’s measurement of ones’ importance. Remember that God created us “fearfully and wonderfully” (Psalms 139:14). Know that our lives matter to our God, and we are worth more than we could ever imagine. God knows our worth – God determines our actual value! To whom do you think God’s only begotten Son gave His life? The Lord Jesus Christ died for you and me!
