Today’s Food for the Soul: Romans Chapters 7-8
Where Is Your Mind Set?!
“So the law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good. Did that which is good, then, bring death to me? By no means! It was sin, producing death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be shown to be sin, and through the commandment might become sinful beyond measure.” (Romans 7:12-13, ESV)
Any follower of our Savior Jesus Christ must understand and appreciate the value of the law — that is, “Biblical Law” I am referring to. Reflect on our passage (Romans 7:12-13, ESV). Meditate on the “Spiritual-Versus-Flesh Struggle” – if you will – our brother Paul delineates in Romans chapter 7 verses 15 through 23. Is it not relatable that which he grumbles over? “For I know that nothing good dwells in me… I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out” (v. 18).
What habits in life make your daily walk with God “somewhat complicated”? What old patterns are holding back your fullest potential via your identity in Christ and strength in His Spirit? Now find profound encouragement in this truth: “…those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of this flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is **LIFE** and **PEACE**” (Romans 8:5-6, ESV). Amen?!
So look within yourselves, brothers & sisters! Where are your minds set? And thus, also, your hearts? And your priorities, goals, and dreams?
